Summary

In Chapter 6, Wallace falls asleep while lying in bed with Miller. Wallace awakes a few hours later. He finds Miller on the building’s porch. When Wallace and Miller are alone, Wallace asks if Miller was overwhelmed by Wallace’s personal anecdotes. Miller claims that he does not feel overwhelmed, but Wallace is unconvinced and saddened. Miller offers his sympathy for everything that Wallace has endured. Wallace says that it felt somewhat like a relief to talk about his traumas. Wallace asks Miller to talk about his own past/traumas. Miller is reluctant, and he says that he once caused someone severe physical harm. Wallace suddenly thinks of the multiple times—over the past years—when Miller has seemingly become almost violent due to anger.
