Summary

Right before her father’s new girlfriend comes to visit, Lizzie dyes her hair red. Frank's girlfriend's name is Samantha, which Lizzie and Elvis know from spying on their father’s computer. They also know that she is allergic to nuts. Samantha arrives at the house in a tight pink dress. Samantha stays at a hotel for the night, but Elvis hears her dad sneak out once he thinks she and Lizzie are asleep.

Elvis brings her family and Samantha to the zoo. Elvis likes that Samantha calls it her “work” (271). Lizzie refuses to let Samantha buy her something from the gift shop. That night, Samantha stays at the Babbitt house instead of a hotel. Elvis thinks she will make a good stepmother because she is so different from Elvis’s mother.
