Summary

Elvis calls Miss Ida to find out where Lizzie has gone. Elvis suspects Lizzie ran off with Soda, since she ran away around the same time he got out of prison. Miss Ida says not to worry, that Lizzie will be home by September. She knows this not from her cards but just from knowing about new, young love. Elvis’s father does not call the police or go after Lizzie, since those options could wind up putting her in prison or pushing her further away. Elvis returns to volunteering at the zoo. She takes care of a pygmy hippo. It is a nocturnal animal and Elvis wonders what it knows about the night that she does not.
