Summary

In Chapter 8, Salma receives a second love letter from Quichotte. She is still both intrigued and worried by his letters. The narration states that Salma is bipolar and takes lithium-based medication for it. She has also undergone electroconvulsive therapy. She is very open about her mental health on her talk show. Secretly, she is addicted to opioids, which she originally took as a means of helping to further ease her mental/emotional pain. She is aware of the risk of overdose, but she cannot top herself from taking dangerous amounts of the drug. Salma employs a man named Anderson Thayer, who undertakes discreet, sometimes illegal tasks for her. Once, a man with whom Salma had a secret romantic relationship died while Salma and the mane were together; Thayer covertly disposed of the body.
