Summary

Slowly Eben's memories and neurosurgical knowledge also come back while his memories of his time in the coma stay vivid and clear. He is eager to share his experiences, but many people, especially doctors, are quick to dismiss his story as a side effect of his sickness: "You know yourself what the brain can come up with when it's that far gone" (125). When Eben IV comes home from university, father and son have a heart-to-heart chat. Eben III expresses his desire to read about NDEs and to share his experience so that it is of value to others. Even IV advises him to write down everything about his experience before doing any research, which Eben III does over the next several weeks.

Because Alexander's brain was not working at all during his coma, he believes that what he experienced was not a dream...
