Summary

As a child, Eben Alexander often dreamt of flying. He grew up to love airplanes and in college, joined a skydiving team. As part of these team, skydivers would come together to create complex formations with their combined bodies as they fell through the air. However, during one memorable jump, the formation failed to come together properly and Eben was soon falling through the sky at extreme speeds straight toward one of his teammates. A collision would have been fatal. Without thinking and within the space of milliseconds, Alexander's body instinctually took over and moved into a position that avoided a collision and allowed both parties to land safely. Looking back, he wondered how he had accomplished this unconscious and superhuman feat.
