Summary

Chapter 8 returns to Linda and appears to be directed at explaining what Linda has done since the reader last saw Linda living with Eve. Linda and Eve are preparing to attend a party. They get dressed and leave. When Linda and Eve arrive at the party Linda wanders around drinking, while Eve hangs back. Eventually Linda finds some drugs, which she believes to be cocaine, and snorts it in a back room. Later into the party, a man approaches Linda with a pipe, which he claims contains opium. After Linda sucks several times on the pipe, the man laughs and tells Linda the pipe really contains heroin. Linda escapes from this man outside, and then to the bathroom where she comes face to face with a new and masculine appearing Baptist, her old boyfriend.
