In "Second Wife," five more years passed. Sultana gave birth to two daughters, then suffered a bought with breast cancer. The illness left Sultana in danger should she ever become pregnant again, so she underwent sterilization surgery. Shortly afterward, despite his assurances of love, Kareem told Sultana that he intended to take a second wife for the purpose of having more children. Sultana became enraged and told Kareem she would never allow that to happen.
