Chapter 9 Summary

In Chapter nine, Ben is horribly lonely for her parents. Ben's eating becomes an even greater bone of contention with Sophia and Beatrix. Ben pledges that she and her father will feast daily as soon as he returns home. However, Sophia can't be too harsh because Lord Fredrick is with them at the table nightly and Sophia apparently doesn't want to treat Ben badly in front of him. One night Ben steps through the wall and into the small room that includes the staircase leading up to the wizard's tower only to discover there's a staircase down. She knows she's supposed to go down and finds herself panicked when she enters a small room with a door on each side and the Montagne hedgehog emblazoned on the adjoining wall until she realizes she's in one of the ex-rooms. She wanders about the castle...
