Chapter 5, The Ghost of the Future Summary

Over dinner one night, Dan asks Owen if he'd like Dan to invite his parents to the play. Owen's answer is a most emphatic NO. On the night of the Christmas Pageant, Owen is sick. He has made a certain enemy of Barb Wiggins, from whom he has stolen the role of director, and she is taking her anger out on his swaddling clothes, as she prepares him for his role as Christ Child. Not only does she wrap him too tightly, but she also teases him shamelessly with affectionate kisses and pats. He mortified and angry by her attentions, and to his undying shame, an erection begins to protrude through his swaddling clothes. Once the pageant begins however, and the protrusion disappears,
