Part 4: Monday, Chapter 25, Amanda and Chapter 26, Travis's Story Summary

Amanda leaves her daughter's house early, anxious to get away from her daughter's constant anxiety that Amanda will die soon. Amanda misses her husband and drives quickly back to their home, thinking about Effrom's secrets—smoking and watching aerobics. She knows about both but allows him this secret world. When Amanda gets to the house, there is a strange smell. She cannot find Effrom and begins to worry. Hesitantly, Amanda checks in his workshop and discovers a new secret: Effrom's sculptures are all nudes of her. She marvels at them, but she is distracted by her worry. Where is Effrom? Then, the phone rings. It is a call from Effrom's kidnappers.
