Effrom Elliot wakes in the morning. His wife is gone away on a trip, and for once he is alone. He misses her. He goes through his morning routine of watching women exercise on TV and thinks about the nearness of his own death. He drinks coffee, eats graham crackers, and looks forward to his nap, when he can continue his morning's erotic dream. He goes out to his workshop, where he makes sculptures and secretly smokes. Throughout his morning, he misses his wife.

A man comes to the door asking about Effrom's wife Amanda, and Effrom tells the man she will be back the next day. The man is Travis. He has finally found the woman he is looking for, but he pretends to be disappointed when he gets back...
