Part 1, Chapter 2 Summary

The chapter opens in a police station and introduces a police lieutenant. As the man is sitting at his desk dealing with the prisoners the Chief of Police enters the office. He tells the lieutenant that the Governor has been on his case, that they suspect a priest is on the run in their state. The lieutenant is surprised to hear this, thinking the last priest was shot weeks ago. They Governor is very angry about the priest and wants him found and killed as soon as possible. The Chief says it will be difficult as the only picture they have of him is very old. He hangs the old picture on the wall next to a photo of an American wanted for bank robbery and murder in the United States.
