Injustice

The main theme of the book, injustice that is not remedied, involves police officers who return to the scene of a crime they failed to solve and get murdered there. In each case the police officer's face is smashed in with a hard object. The murders are so brutal, Crime Squad comes to the conclusion that revenge is probably the motive. Public pressure and the media are so intense, Kripos are brought in to collaborate with Crime Squad, but without success. Only after Gunnar Hagen gathers together Harry Hole's former special investigation unit do they make progress. With Harry's help the special unit comes to believe that those men who return to a former crime scene have received a phone call from someone they trust and are willing to meet: i.e., another police officer.
