Maria meets Les Goodwin after her abortion. She asks for a very large steak and three martinis. Maria remembers her last visit to see her mother in Silver Wells. She flew in for the weekend and had Sunday dinner with her father, mother, and Benny. Maria asked Benny if everything was alright with her mother, and Benny said her mother was fine, just a little depressed. Maria studied her mother and tried to see if anything was wrong.
