In 1946, Lindgren wrote a sequel to Pippi Longstocking which was published in English in 1957 as Pippi Goes on Board. Pippi in the South Seas followed in 1959. Pippi Goes on Board relates more of Pippi's escapades with Tommy and Annika in the little Swedish town where Villa Villekulla is located. Toward the end of the book. Captain Efraim returns to Villa Villekulla and plans to take Pippi with him on his ship. Pippi is on board and ready to leave, but cannot go because Tommy and Annika are crying too much, and she decides to stay. Captain Efraim throws her a new suitcase full of gold pieces so that she will be rich during his absence. Pippi in the South Seas also begins with Pippi's extraordinary life at Villa Villekulla. Not until midway through.....
