Sunday afternoon Pippi tries to figure out what to do. Tommy and Annika are with their parents at a party so she can not see them. She has been feeding her animals and looking over souvenirs from trips with her father. She tries to teach the monkey how to dance the schottische, but he does not want to. It is getting dark on this fall day. Pippi decides she will go for a ride. She and Mr. Nilsson ride on the horse in cold conditions. People look at them as they ride through town. The town has a square: old one-story buildings, a town hall, and a new building called the "Skyscraper" because it is the highest building in town with three stories.
