Summary

In Chapter 1, Ava, the narrator, told her girlfriend, Chloe, that she was switching from their public high school to the private school Billy Hughes. Ava said that her parents were making her switch, but that was not the truth. Her parents, professors at the University of Melbourne who had met at the Feminist-Socialist-Anarchist collective at university, had reluctantly allowed her to go after she had applied and gotten in on her own. Chloe hated school and thought the educational system was destroying the world, and Ava pretended to agree with her, but inside she longed for rigorous academia, rules, and regulations.
