Taylor goes alone to Annawake's office and finds Cash there with her. They discuss their own two stories and Annawake explains the law that applies. Cash shows Taylor a picture of Turtle as a baby, which does not help, but he also shows her a picture of Turtle's mother when she was the age that Turtle is now and Taylor knows, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that Turtle is Cash's granddaughter. She is terrified that she might lose her and Annawake and Cash can see how devoted she is to the little girl.
