Cash serves her breakfast in bed and he tells her the story of his family. Four years ago, he had three funerals: his mother, who was old; his wife, who died of cancer; and his oldest daughter, Alma, who drove her car off a bridge. Alma left her baby, Lacey, with his other daughter, who ran off to Tulsa with a worthless man. Cash tried to keep in touch with her because of the baby, but she went to a bar one night and gave the child to some girl passing through in a car.
