The novel is the story of a boy named Milo, who is dull and unhappy because he does not know anything or even why he should try to change that. Milo travels to another world, where learning and the pursuit of wisdom is explicitly shown to be valuable. Milo undertakes a quest to rescue the princesses Rhyme and Reason and restore the balance to the world they once helped to rule. Along the way, Milo develops an appreciation for learning, and by the time he rescues the princesses and returns home, he is an altogether different boy, eager and ready to learn. (read more)
