Summary

In “Sleep,” Pew tells the reader that if he ever needs to sleep, he should look for a church. Even though Pew knows there are many reasons a person might enter or leave a church, Pew only remembers going into a church to sleep and leaving it either because of being awakened or being asked to leave.

Pew looks at himself in the mirror of a bathroom gas station. Pew feels as if he is lying in a canoe, unable to sit up or move. Pew hears people talking to the canoe. Pew remembers someone telling him he had a woman’s neck on a man’s body, or vice versa. Pew is not sure about the shade of his skin.
