Chapters 19 - 20, Boy Ready, The Ledger of Our Decisions Summary

Reuben's lungs are getting worse; his energy is down and the others have to keep taking care of him. Swede brought him steam and read psalms to him. Jeremiah was busy courting Roxanna and Reuben realized there had been no miracles while they were with her, although he acknowledged that many wonders had occurred, but Reuben thought he needed a miracle.

Swede is reading to Reuben and Reuben decides he is going to tell her about Davy but then Jeremiah gets home. Jeremiah brought Dr. Nickles, who told him that the stream/vinegar treatment they used didn't work. He advises them to take Reuben to the hospital until his lungs clear up; he is a full-blown asthmatic. But, he remembers the hospital has lots of influenza patients...
