Chapters 13 - 14, Something Warm, The Skin Bag Summary

Andreeson had manipulated the North Dakota State Patrol to dispatch troopers to track the Land's. But the Land's avoided them. Swede and Reuben discuss which Biblical figure Jeremiah is most like for avoiding the troopers. Swede tells Reuben that she put maple syrup in Andreeson's gas tank when he was talking to Jeremiah.

They still need gas and poured in ten gallons they had stored. Jeremiah is getting tired, so they pull over near a barn; he wants to stay in one place on Saturday because the gas stations will be closed. Swede points out to Reuben how unlikely it is that none of the troopers saw them. Jeremiah had God behind him; maybe they could get along without gas.
