Chapters 11 - 12, The Last Thing He Would Do, At War With This Whole World Summary

August and Birdie Schultz were wonderful hosts, feeding them like they hadn't been fed for some time. They also tell the Lands about Davy. Davy had come to their house previously; August said he looked more grown-up, thinner but in good shape. Apparently Davy misses his father and siblings terribly.
