Reuben doesn't glamorize Davy's actions; the family simply waits quietly for Ted Pullet, the police man. Reuben tells Davy that Davy did not mean to kill them, but Davy says that he did. The town's squad cars all come together. They could have easily prevented this.
Reuben recounts one more of Jeremiah's miracles in an interlude. Years ago, before Jeremiah turned thirty, a tornado sucked him into the air. Davy had only just been born at this time; Jeremiah was studying to be a doctor at the time. That night, he was working to pay his way through medical school and the athletic building, where he was cleaning, was not composed of brick.
Helen protected Davy during the tornado incident and watches it travel down their street; she tried to call Jeremiah but the phone burned her in an unworldly way. Later, authorities told Helen that the athletic building...
