The setting of the book changes in the beginning of Part Two. The reader meets the author at a much younger age. While in a Christian college in Canada, Don Richardson heard Ebenezer Vine, secretary of the Regions Beyond Missionary Union, give a stirring supplication for young people to consider evangelizing in the South Pacific after graduation. Vine extolled on the need for a message of peace in an area of the globe known for its treachery and destruction.
