Importance: Jamaican society is very close-minded about certain things, particularly about gender roles. Women are prescribed to be married and have children. Women who do not fit this gender role are questioned, unless they have a pathway with the faith community. There is particular societal disdain for people who are seen to be "funny", i.e. people who identify as LGBTQIA. This is a particularly important observation about Jamaican cultural judgments given Patsy's bisexuality and Tru's non-confirming gender identity.
