Summary

In Chapter 16, Patsy goes to Peta-Gaye, which is owned by a French-Canadian white man, Bernie, who was inspired by his one trip to the island to open a Jamaican restaurant in Tribeca. The restaurant is named after the woman who cooked for him while he was there. She notices that there is only one Jamaican working in the restaurant. Bernie hires Patsy, and in chapter 17, it takes Patsy some time to get used to her job as a bathroom attendant. Patsy is disappointed by the low pay and realizes that she has to find another job and that she needs to get her papers.

Patsy learns to stay invisible while she is working as a bathroom attendant. The only person Patsy can talk to is Fionna, a Trinidadian woman who sometimes works with Patsy. Patsy and Fionna develop a comfortable friendship. In...
