Chapter 17, Recriminations and Decisions Summary

Jack's visit with Cathy is spoiled by the presence of his father-in-law with whom Jack has not spoken in three years. Joe Muller is a senior Vice President with Merrill Lynch and still does not understand why Jack turned his back on a sure way to make a living. Joe and Jack have the beginnings of an argument in Cathy's hospital room until Jack chooses to leave Cathy in peace. When Joe accosts Jack later, he asks sarcastically how a punk history teacher is going to catch the people responsible for Cathy's accident and Jack ahs the satisfaction of telling his father-in-law he cannot tell him that.
