Consolata Summary

Consolata - known to the women who live with her and the people of Ruby as Connie - is spending a great deal of time in the basement in an effort to remain numb from the alcohol though she recalls with great detail how she came to live at the Convent. Connie is nine years old and living on the streets of Portugal when a group of nuns, including Sister Mary Magna, finds her. She's taken in and then taken out of the country to America. The nuns take over the building known now as the Convent. It had been built by a man who was arrested for embezzling and lost it all.
