Act 2, Part 1 Summary

The Stage Manager begins the act by saying three years have passed and describing what is happening in that time - mountains have eroded, babies not born during the first act have started to walk, and several couples have married. He says "The first Act was called the Daily Life. This act is called Love and Marriage" and adds that the audience can probably guess what the third act is about--the inference is that it is about death, which proves to be correct.

The morning begins in a similar fashion to the morning in Act 1, with Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Webb coming into their kitchens to make breakfast. As they work, Howie Newsome and two other residents of the town meet on the street and gossip about how Grover's Corners is.....
