Chapters 2-3 Summary

Chapter 2. When Aunt Alice leaves for Astoria the following morning, she asks that May Amelia's mother allow some of the boys to come with her to fix her roof. Mother not only gives permission for the twins, Ivan and Alvin, to go, but asks May Amelia and Wilbert to go along to do some shopping. The following day, the children paddle a boat toward Knappton, where they will catch a ferry to Astoria. As they make progress down river, May Amelia asks that she be shown how to shoot. The boys paddle to shore at Olaaf Kuula's farm even though they have heard the rumors that Olaaf is crazy. As they show May Amelia how to shoot the gun, Olaaf comes out of nowhere and begins firing his weapon at them, insisting they are ghosts. The children manage to make a...
