Summary

Verse 3, called “A Monster at Heart,” restarted the chapter numbering again with Chapter 1. The monster in Kate’s mind showed her a nightmare of a monster killing her in her father’s office. Kate woke up in August’s room. She removed the doorknob that locked her in and went to the kitchen. August’s cat Allegro brushed against her. Then Henry Flynn greeted her. They discussed the new monster, which Kate called the Chaos Eater. Henry asked Kate to tell him what she knew about Sloan. Kate realized that Henry was sick. Emily joined them as Henry cooked breakfast for them. Kate said that she wanted to train with the FTF, but Emily thought it would cause conflict among the soldiers.
