Summary

Verse 2, called “The Monster in Me,” restarted the chapter numbering with Chapter 1. The monster continued to control Kate’s mind. Kate woke up from fainting after six hours. Riley and Malcolm knelt beside her in the bathroom. They told her that a man at the restaurant had killed 12 people, including his wife. The only survivor attacked a doctor when she woke up in the hospital. Kate went to work at the coffee shop. When a man held up the line, she threw his phone against the wall and imagined snapping his neck. Kate convinced herself not to hurt him and fled the store. In Chapter 2, she returned to Riley’s apartment. She felt a headache and tried to understand why she had the sudden desire for violence. She looked at her reflection in the bathroom mirror and saw a flash of silver...
