Orientalism Important People
Edward W. Said
Said is the author of the book and is being included in the list of Important People because the book is written in the first person. Said is an academic specializing in the area of Humanities, who grew up in the Middle East. He is not only interested in the area but also has first hand knowledge of the area and the culture. His book is aimed at how the study of Orientalism is approached and what problems have resulted from the traditional approach that began in the early nineteenth century with the days of European imperialism. Said's view is that the misconceptions and misrepresentations of the Arabs and the Orient was the result of the flaws in the approaches of the early Orientalists.
