Chapter 31 Summary

Beth and Cal have been fighting for weeks. Beth tells Cal that she can't stand the way Cal looks at her, as though he believes she is an emotional cripple. Cal wants to go for counseling, but Beth completely rejects the idea. In fact, she says that when he suggested this, she knew for sure that their relationship was over. She is leaving, at least for a while, and will be going on a European vacation. Meanwhile, Cal will sell the house, and he and Conrad will rent a place to stay for a while. Beyond that, they have no plans. Beth leaves without even saying goodbye to Conrad.

Conrad asks Cal why Beth is leaving, and Cal admits to Conrad that he doesn't really know for.....
