Chapter 17 Summary

Today is Conrad's eighteenth birthday, and he and his dad spend the day cleaning out the garage. Cal notes that Conrad is in a good mood, and he gives Conrad his first beer. Cal asks Conrad about Dr. Berger: if he likes him, what they talk about. Then Cal asks Conrad how he would feel if Cal decided to go see him. Conrad says it would be fine with him, but Cal still isn't certain that he wants to go.

Later, Cal does decide to go see Dr. Berger. He is unsure of what to expect. At first, Dr. Berger really makes him uncomfortable. They discuss Cal's guilt about Conrad's suicide.....
