Chapter 16 Summary

Conrad suddenly seems to develop a new lease on life. He decides that he needs to work hard to pass finals, get more exercise, find some friends, and obtain a job. He also wants to work on his guitar playing again, read more books, and meet a girl. After he makes this list of goals, he sets out to complete them. He goes to the library and notices a pretty woman staring at him. He doesn't know her and cannot imagine why she is staring. He assumes the worst: that she sees him as a freak. He checks out his books and inquires about a job at the library.

The librarian tells Conrad that they are not hiring right now. As Conrad leaves the library, he encounters the woman who has been staring at.....
