Chapter 11 Summary

Cal has lunch with Carole, Lazenby's mother. They talk about Carole's identity class and Beth's activities and skill for organization. After lunch, Cal thinks back to when Jordan and Conrad were toddlers, and Beth had to have everything perfect. She would work her fingers to the bone to maintain a perfect household, then get terribly upset when the children made a mess. Cal liked that she was a perfectionist, even though she was difficult to live with during those years. He reflects that he gave up being a perfectionist after Jordan's death and Conrad's suicide attempt.

Beth reports that she had lunch with Nancy Hanley, his law partner's wife. Cal asks her if she would like to go with him to look at a car for Conrad's Christmas present; she tells him to go.....
