Umuahia, Nigeria

Umuahia is a city in southeastern Nigeria. It has a population of about 350,000 people. Chinonso lives and works in Umuahia. He encounters Ndali one day when she is standing on a bridge in the city, preparing to kill herself. After Chinonso stops Ndali from killing herself, they become friends, and eventually lovers. Chinonso eventually leaves Nigeria to acquire a university degree. Ndali says that she will wait for him. However, Chinonso is wrongfully imprisoned for four years, and when he finally returns to Nigeria, Ndali has married someone else.

Chinonso’s Farm

At the beginning of the novel, Chinonso works as a poultry farmer. His home and his farm occupy the same land. Chinonso loves his work.
