Summary

Some time has passed and the father has been able to leverage the rental office into giving them a bigger unit as far away as possible from Mr. Aguilar and the girls for the same price as their old apartment. The narrator and his brother come home from the laundromat to find two girls and one boy, all high school aged, in their smoke-filled apartment with their father. The father brings them all into his bedroom and the boys go to their room, where they find a used condom on the brother’s bed. A few minutes later their father knocks on their door and tells the brother to drive everyone home. Meanwhile, he goes to take a shower, and tells the narrator if his new girlfriend, Janice, calls to let her know they would be over shortly.
