Chapter 15 Summary and Analysis

The third week in March, Ed Somers calls to tell Torey that there is finally an opening at the state hospital. Torey has been dreading this call and asks if Sheila really has to go. Ed tells her that they all knew the situation was temporary and that Torey should not have got so involved. Torey hangs up the phone and delays returning to her classroom for awhile. When she finally goes back to her room, she stands in the doorway watching as Sheila helps Anton set up a project for the next day. Torey looks around the room, wishing that she had a teacher's desk to hide behind. Instead, she sinks down onto the pillows in the corner. Sheila soon comes over to see what is wrong with Torey.
