Summary

“The Wishing Well” began with Rita and Daunt’s stop to a well famous for having magical capabilities. Daunt suggested that Rita take his photo. Amidst she took the picture of Daunt’s face submerged in a bucket of well water, she raced from behind the camera to his side and recorded his pulse. When he emerged, she explained that his pulse had stopped for three seconds, then restarted at a rate slower than normal when only his face was submerged in cold water. Both Daunt and Rita felt pained by what the wishing well could not provide them: a child.

“The Magic Lantern Show” began at the Swan in autumn. Joe’s health continued to decline. The patrons were dissatisfied by the turn of events in the girl’s story. Their stories evolved to include supernatural occurrences...
