Chapter 14 Summary

Travis and Mama cannot leave the dead roan bull, filled with sickness, so close to the house because it might contaminate the drinking water. Mama says they have to burn the carcass so that the sickness does not spread. Mama harnesses Jumper to pull away the bull but the weight is too much for him and he cannot budge it. Since the carcass cannot be moved, they will have to burn it where it is. There is no wood close to the house so Mama and Lisbeth must go far out into the woods to gather some.
