Laramie

Laramie is the town in Wyoming where Shepard was attacked and killed. Shepard was a student at the University of Wyoming, located in Laramie.

Fireside Lounge

The Fireside Lounge is the bar in which Shepard was drinking when he was approached by McKinney and Henderson. The two men pretended to be homosexual to lure Shepard out of the bar into their pick up truck.

The Fence

McKinney and Henderson left Shepard tied to a buck-rail fence on the outskirts of Laramie after they beat him. The fence became the site of a memorial for Shepard. Although the original fence was torn down, a new one was built to replace it. Newman indicates that people still visit the site of the fence to pay their respects to Shepard.
