Summary

Part Three: 71: A Sign of Humanity begins 11 years ago as Dalinar heads to Rathalas (the Rift) to meet with Sadeas. Evi is still unhappy even though she does everything Dalinar needs her to. Dalinar hates the idea that she thinks their argument will hurt their marriage. He joins her in the carriage, unable to stop thinking about her feelings. Evi says she was praying for the men he is about to kill and asks if there is room for mercy. Evi says she sees within him a great man struggling against one with no heart. She asks him not to kill the rebels. They arrive and Teleb tells him of a guarded caravan that left the Rift. Dalinar goes closer to the wall, thinking that the Thrill is his reward for going to war. He approaches the wall by himself meets with Tanalan...
