Summary

“Yolo Had Read” flashes back to when Yolo met a former girlfriend, who was Hawaiian. In the flashback, he is at a party when he sees his girlfriend-to-be, Alma, with an “average sort of white guy” (71). The guy is pressuring Alma to hula dance for everyone at the party, though she clearly does not want to dance. Finally, Yolo intervenes. He assures her that she does not have to dance. Still, the man persists. Finally, Alma dances while faking a smile.

After the party, Yolo overhears an argument between Alma and the guy. He witnesses Alma hit the man. In return, the man punches her. Yolo intervenes and grabs the man. Alma then drive away in her car alone.

Weeks later, Yolo runs into Alma on the street after seeing her frustrated with a parking...
