Summary

The following chapter returns to the nightclub where Claire asked Arthur what was wrong and Arthur responded that he was fine. Claire asked Arthur if he wanted to leave. Arthur said that he did want to leave. He agreed to go back to Claire’s place with her, although his desire to do this had disappeared since his hallucination.

In the next chapter, Claire and Arthur got a cab to Claire’s apartment building. They went upstairs to Claire’s apartment and Claire got undressed. She and Arthur began kissing and Claire’s pleasure and excitement were clear to Arthur. From Arthur’s perspective, all of the events of the day – his meeting with his father and his vivid hallucination about his mother’s suicide – came rushing through his mind and body. Arthur began violently attacking Claire.
