XXI-XXV Summary
Margaret and her father walk home. They talk about Mr. Thornton, and Margaret admits she is growing to like him. When they reach home, a distressed Dixon meets them at the door. She says Mrs. Hale looked all but dead only hours before and she had to call Dr. Donaldson. She is now better, but it is obvious she is on death row. Mr. Hale asks Margaret why she did not tell him of the severity of his wife's illness, and Dr. Donaldson defends Margaret, saying she did the right thing. Mr. Hale faints from shock and they have to take him upstairs to revive him. Everyone stays up all night and keeps an eye on Mrs. Hale.
